Justin is a fully qualified and experienced specialist surgeon who is dedicated to helping men solve issues with their urogenital system.

The urogenital system broadly relates to the penis and the urethra (tube that carries urine from the bladder and acts as a passage for semen).

Justin treats complex issues to improve and restore function for men.

BENIGN CONDITIONS

Benign conditions of the Penis or the Urogenital System may not be life threatening, but can still cause physical and emotional discomfort. Below are some of the common Benign Conditions that Justin can address:

Buried Penis / Hidden Penis

BURIED PENIS / HIDDEN PENIS

A Buried Penis is the term used when the penis is buried or concealed under abnormal skin and/or fat. In adults, overweight men can have lower belly fat that sags and hides the penis. This is often made worse by a circumcision, as the amount of penile skin is reduced, and by a skin condition called lichen sclerosus.

Although the penis is of normal size when erect, most of the penis is buried within the soft tissues and does not project outwards to be of use, and erections are often painful.  Further complications include difficulty in passing urine.

Corrective surgery using a combination of urological and plastic surgery to remove the fat and skin of the lower abdomen and reconstruct the skin of the penile shaft.

Peyronie's Disease

PEYRONIE'S DISEASE

Peyronie’s Disease refers to a condition where the penis bends at time of erection due to a plaque or scarring in the erectile tissue.  The tissue in the penis hardens (known as fibrosis) and creates a lump, or scar tissue which impedes blood flow, causing the curvature in the penis whilst erect.  In severe cases, this can cause an inability to perform sexual intercourse, or even erectile dysfunction.

Peyronie’s Disease can be as a result of genetics (family history), or due to an injury to the penis.

Treatment for Peyronie’s is relatively straight-forward, and can be handled by either medical tablets or by an injection into the penile lesion/plaque to dissolve the excess collagen.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION (ED)

Erectile dysfunction, or impotence, is the inability to get and maintain an erection for satisfactory sexual penetration.  It is not a disease, but rather a symptom of another problem.

There are many physiological, lifestyle and psychological reasons why a man may experience Erectile Dysfunction during his lifetime, including diabetes, smoking and alcohol consumption, stress, depression and anxiety, hormonal imbalances and pelvic trauma.

Justin will work with you to discover the cause of your ED, and discuss which treatment is best for your unique situation.  This may be through medication,  intracavernosal injection, referral to a sexual health psychologist, or an inflatable penile prosthesis.  In some cases, vascular reconstruction – reconnecting the blood vessels to the penis – is required.  Justin’s skills and experience are highly sought after for these cases.

Prostate Hypertrophy

PROSTATE HYPERTROPHY

Prostate is a gland (about the size of a walnut) near the opening of the bladder.

Prostate hypertrophy, or Benign Prostate Hypertrophy (BPH), is when there is an overgrowth of cells in the prostate and it becomes enlarged, causing physical discomfort and pain for men when trying to urinate.

Whilst the cause is unknown, normal hormonal changes that occur as men age seem to have an impact.

Symptoms include not being able to urinate normally (either not being able to start urinating, or not being able to finish urinating) and needing to go to the toilet more frequently as a result.

Justin will discuss your options, which may involve a combination of surgical and non-surgical techniques.

Prostate Hypertophy

INCONTINENCE

Incontinence describes when a man isn't able to control or accidentally passes urine. It can happen to men post the age of 40, however it is more prevalent in men that may have had their prostate gland removed.

Men may suffer from incontinence as a result of undergoing a radical prostatectomy or a Transurethral Resection of the prostate.

There are several treatments available to men who suffer from incontinence, from physiotherapy to surgical solutions.   Justin will ensure his patients regain their sense of dignity and quality of life.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

URETHRAL STRICTURE

The urethra is a tube that carries urine from the bladder to the tip of the penis. A stricture is a narrowing of this tube, causing difficulty in urinating.

There are many symptoms that may indicate a urethral stricture including, difficulty in passing urine a slow stream or burning sensation when passing urine, and the presence of a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).

Urethral strictures may occur for various reasons such as previous surgeries, history of stricture, as the result of a UTI, or as a consequence of radiation therapy used to treat prostate cancer.

Justin uses a unique and ground-breaking combination of plastic and urological techniques to rebuild the urethra.

As with most surgeries, there are risk factors that occur. Justin will take the time necessary to ensure his patients are fully informed and consulted throughout the process.

Post Circumcision Complications

POST CIRCUMCISION COMPLICATIONS

Men that were circumcised as infants may present complications from the surgery over time.  This usually happens because an excessive amount of skin was removed at the time and there may have been problems with wound healing.

This can cause tight skin around the penis that leads to painful erections and may cause an abnormal appearance of the penis.

Scar revision using a combination of urological and plastic surgical techniques can be used to correct the condition and restore form and function to the penis.

Fistula

VASECTOMY REVERSAL

There are some men who have undergone a vasectomy, who, for personal reasons, may decide that they wish to have more children. Although a vasectomy is considered a permanent form of male contraception, advances in medical technology and surgical practice have meant a high rate of success in vasectomy reversal procedures.

A vasectomy reversal, or vasovastostomy, reconnects the tubes (the vas deferens) that were cut as part of a vasectomy.

CANCER WELLNESS

Life after cancer can get back to normal.

For some men, the treatment used to address cancer can cause side effects that greatly impact quality of life. Some of these side effects are considered untreatable by most doctors however Justin is considered a world-leader in addressing these sometimes complicated issues.

Below are some of the typical post-cancer issues that Justin can address.

Fistula

FISTULA

A fistula is an abnormal connection between two anatomical structures, and can occur between the urethra and skin, the rectum and urethra, and colon and bladder.

Symptoms include urine leaking into the perineum, recurrent or chronic UTI’s, air or gas in the urine, and perineal and pelvic pain.

Fistulas can occur as a result of prostatectomy or other major pelvic surgery, and as a result of radiation therapy.

The treatment to correct a fistula is urinary diversion, followed by complex reconstructive surgery using a combination of urological and plastic surgical techniques.  Justin is a highly respected surgeon who, along with his colleagues, are often sought out to perform such complex surgeries.
